Manure &c. distributers.-A machine for distributing manure &c. comprises a hopper having outlet openings in the bottom over which is reciprocated a feeder plate having lateral projections and passing through twopart fittings that are secured over the outlet openings and are adapted to scrape the feeder plate, a shifting-link motion being incorporated in the mechanism for reciprocating the feeder plate to allow of variation of the stroke. The top of the hopper 1 is hinged at 2a and the bottom at 3<a>, the latter being held closed by pivoted bolts 4 having wing nuts 6 passing below slotted straps 5. Outlet openings 7 are spaced along the bottom 3 over a ridge-shaped spreader 7<a>. The fittings over the openings comprise upper and lower hollow castings 9, 10 bolted across the hopper, the lower castings containing openings 12 above the openings 7 and recesses 10<a> through which the feeder plate 8 passes. The side edges of the plate 8 are recessed so as to leave comparatively wide fingers 14 at intervals, with narrow fingers 15 midway between them and fingers 16 of intermediate width between the fingers 14 and 15. A rack 17 on the plate 8 gears with a pinion 18 on a shaft 20 rocked by means of an arm 22, a rod 23, a block 24, a pivoted link 25, a rod 36, and a crank arm 37 on a shaft 38 driven by bevel gearing 39, a shaft 40, spur gearing 41, 42, and a travelling wheel 43. The stroke is adjusted by moving the block 24 in the pivoted link 25 by means of lever and link mechanism 30, 31 &c. The axles of the wheels 43 are bolted to a cross-beam 29 fastened to brackets on bars 46 that are fixed on the end plates of the hopper 1 and carry draught shafts. In a modification the hopper may be mounted behind a vehicle and the spur wheel 42 driven by chain gearing from a wheel of the vehicle. An agitating bar 48 provided with pins is reciprocat.ed longitudinally through the hopper by means of a rack 49 meshing with the top of the pinion 18. Instead of a single feeder plate 8 passing longitudinally through the hopper there may be a number of plates passing transversely through it.
