325,788. Amalgamated Carburetters, Ltd., and Brown, C. Oct. 20, 1928. Control mechanism.-In bandle-bar control devices for variable-speed gears of motor cycles, a rotary hand grip e<1>, Fig. 1, controlling the variable gearing is adapted to be locked in gear positions by a separate hand lever b, which operates the engine clutch. The grip e<1> carries a ring e with notches f, g, Fig. 7, adapted to be engaged by the heel d of lever b which is spring-pulled through Bowden wire c. Lever b is pivoted, upon a. collar a fast on the handle bar. The collar a is in two parts which clamp between them the supports s for gear control Bowden wires h, i. From the parts of collar a extend segment tubes j the edges of which form guide-ways for slide bars k, l, which are joined at p and q to the wires h, i, in a manner described in Specification 306,643. The bars k, l carry projections m, n engaging helical ramps in a tube o secured to the grip e<1>, so that as the latter is turned, one of the wires h, i is pulled and the other slacked. A gear control drum near the gear-box is thus turned.
