Abstract

282,662. Pulsgetriebe Ges. Dec. 22, 1926, [Convention date]. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing for vehicles &c. is modified to eliminate noise and vibration. A bearing 15 is arranged between driving and driven shafts substantially in the plane of the centre of gravity of the driving-unit, which in this case comprises a shaft 2, flywheel 3, hollow shaft 6 and gear 6<a>. Planet groups such as 8, 9 are displaced from the usual symmetrical spacing by a fraction of the pitch. Gearing pairs such as 8, 6a and 9, 4<a> are tuned to notes which are discords. The invention is described as applied to gearing of the kind in which speeds are varied by allowing a planet-carrying casing 10 to slip relatively to a control brake 14. The invention is stated to be applicable to arrangements with multiple gear pairs in which changes are effected by clutches.
