Change-speed gearing; transmission gear of invariable ratio.-The initial speed reduction gear between the motor-driven clutch shaft and the gear box c is arranged to give a compound or double speed reduction so that the drive from the cardan shaft to the back axle may be effected without any further speed reduction, thus ensuring that all the shafts of the change-speed gear run at the minimum possible speed. In the illustrated form the double reduction is effected by a chain drive b and spur drive f, g.
