Abstract

279,638. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., Lejeune, S. M., and Petch, H. S. Nov. 1, 1926. Cut - out arrangements.-A circuit 11. which mav be a feeder, interconnector, transformer, &c. is protected by current transformers 12, 13, the secondaries of which are connected in a series circuit 14, 15. Across equipotential points E, F is connected a circuit 16 including protective relays 17, 18. In order to avoid capacity currents between the circuit 16 and the circuit 14, 15 the ends G, H of the circuit 16 are raised to a potential equal to half that across either transformer 12, 13. This is effected by means of transformers 25, 26, the primaries of which are shunted across resistances in the circuit 14, 15 and the secondaries being in series with the circuit 16. The system is also applied to a three phase circuit to afford protection against both earth and interphase faults, " biassing transformers " as described in Specifications 193,434 and 216,254, or vibrating relays as described in Specification 257,337, being used.
