Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (v).] Transformer windings and the bus-bars to which they are connected are selectively protected by impedance relays, the operation of the relay belonging to one transformer winding being made dependent on the direction of the short-circuit energy in the remaining windings. The relays protecting the windings are so constructed that for external faults they automatically adjust their grading so as to receive an increased time-setting, whereas for faults within the windings they trip with the base-time setting.
