Abstract

301,144. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Holbrook, H. S. Sept. 21, 1927. Protective arrangements. - In alternating current systems baving a neutral point earthed through a resistance, earth-fault currents are limited by a reactor in series with the line and offering a negligable impedance to a balanced load but a high impedance to a fault current in one of the lines. Such reactance may comprise equal windings in each phase so placed that their combined effective exciting current is the resultant of the currents in the lines. Fig. 4 'shows three equal windings w upon a common core which may have an air gap g. On occasion the reactor may have an air core.
