Abstract
266,287. Holter, A. Feb. 20, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Securing bags, special means for.-Paper bags and the like are sealed by means of two clamping bars, Fig. 1, disposed one on each side of the mouth 2 and secured together by nails 3 or screws &c. passing therethrough. The lower inside edges 4 of the bars are preferably rounded to prevent injury to the bag, and the clamping faces of the bars may be roughened or provided with co-operating grooves and ribs to increase the gripping friction. Preferably the bars do not extend to the corners of the bag mouth, thereby enabling filling valves of the Bates type to be provided. Pairs of small co-operating bars may be used along the mouth of the bag, which may be folded upon itself before the bars are attached, and the inner faces of the bars may be coated with adhesive before being clamped together. In a modification, Fig. 6, separate bars are dispensed with, the double thickness of material at the mouth of the bag being folded on both sides thereof and secured by staples &c. In another modification the mouth of the bag is given single fold and secured by a row of U-shaped staples.
