Abstract
288,492. Chadwick, C. Oct. 12, 1927. Paper bags. - The open end of a paper bag or the end of a bag-making tube is closed by a strip 7 of paper or other non-metallic material of W-section which is applied to it in such a manner that the central tongue or V-portion 8 of the strip enters and lies between the walls 5 of the bag or tube and the outer portions 9 of the strip embrace or lie upon the outsides of the walls of the bag. The closure is secured by stitching or stapling across the width of the bag through the strip and the walls, which may previously have been secured together by adhesive. The ends of the V-portion are tapered to facilitate the insertion of the portion between the walls, and when the bag is of the satchel type, the V-shaped portion is divided near its ends to embrace the folds in the walls of the bag. The separated parts of the strip and the margins of the walls enclosed in the folds of the strip may be turned outwards to form a bottom on which the bag can rest.
