Abstract
264,263. Columbia Graphophone Co., Ltd., and Mitchell, F. A. Oct. 27, 1925. Diaphragms.-A diaphragm for acoustic instruments comprises two zones A, C with a flexible connection L between them, and the inner zone is so proportioned that its natural frequency is at least an octave and preferably about three octaves above that of the outer zone. Such a diaphragm gives equal response through a range of at least two octaves. The inner zone is in the form of an obtuse cone having a diameter not exceeding half the diameter of the diaphragm and an area approximately one third of the area of the outer zone. The zones may be formed integrally or from separate discs of material. The diaphragm is made from aluminium or aluminium alloy with a protective coating of elastic less corrodible material, such as rubber or a cellulose derivative. Formulae are given for the calculation of the natural frequency and the optimum proportions of the zones. Specification 212,137 is referred to.
