Abstract

231,421. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Rice, C. W.). March 27, 1924, [Convention date]. Sound magnifying and directing appliances.-A non-resonant baffle is arranged to make the length of air path between the two sides of the diaphragm of the order of magnitude of at least one quarter the wave length of the longest useful sound waves. A baffle of an effective diameter of three feet may be used with a diaphragm the back of which is enclosed, the enclosure being lined with sound damping material such as felt. The baffle may be conical as in Fig. 4, or pyramidal as in Fig. 8, or may be a shallow box with open back.
