Abstract
274,576. Empson, F. J. April 24, 1926. Loud-speakers; magnetic instruments. - A sound amplifier of the kind described in Specification 216,912, [Class 13, Bells &c.], compris. ing resonating shells A, B, C with annular spaces between them, is coupled to one or more telephone receivers by means of transverse tubes such as H, K, which direct the sound waves towards a reflector J, preferably of parabolic form, at the inner end of the outer shell or of an intermediate shell. The tubes may be entirely of metal, or partly of wood or indiarubber, and may be bent or cut obliquely at their inner ends as in Fig. 3, or may merge into a common orifice M, Fig. 4. The apparatus may be employed with a pair of headphones E which may be sprung on to sockets on the ends of the tubes, or with one or two stationary receivers, which may have different acoustic and electric constants.
