Abstract

261,462. Stewart, A. C. Aug. 17, 1925. Bodies; doors, cart.-A rail or road vehicle of the kind provided with one or more vertically movable platforms which can be raised by means of ropes or chains and secured in raised position with the load thereon, the rear of the vehicle being provided with a door or tail board adapted to form a gangway for use with live loads, comprises a wholly or partially enclosed skeleton rectangular metal framework having metal corner posts forming guides for one or more movable platforms, wire ropes or chains for suspending the platforms, winding mechanism, and a rear door or tailboard adapted to form a gangway. As shown, a platform 10 is guided by the four corner stanchions 5 and may be raised by cables 11 and winding drums 13. The sides of the vehicle are enclosed by a framing comprising lathes 8, which may be wholly or partially closed by wood battens. Each platform may be provided with a hinged or detachable tailboard and a main tailboard 18 is provided having folding or detachable sides 19, the tailboard also acting as a loading gangway. The framework and platforms are adapted to be fitted to existing vehicles. The top of the framework may be covered in with a canvas, metal, or wooden roof.
