Abstract

399,286. Portable huts &c. MARTIN, W. B., 9, Stafford Road, Sidcup, Kent. June 24, 1932, No. 17903. [Class 20 (i).] A collapsable cabin, shed, or hut comprises floor, side, end, and roof sections, whereof the floor comprises a plurality of separate or foldable sections to which the side and end sections are hinged. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the floor comprises two sections 6, 7, hinged together by a bolt 8, and provided beneath with bolts or pivoted bars and clamps for consolidating them in their extended position. The front wall 12, rear wall 13, and side walls 14, 15 are hinged to the floor, the various hinges 19, 20, 21 being arranged at different levels to enable the sections to lie flat against each other when collapsed. The front and rear walls are each formed of two separate sections pivoting respectively upon the floor sections 6, 7, and provided with pivoted bars 22 and clamps 23 for securing them together in the erected position. To effect further compactness, each wall section is formed of two leaves folding about the hinges 16, 17, 18. The roof structure may be built up as a separate rigid, flexible, or foldable section, adapted to be positioned on the front, side, and end walls. In the form shown, it comprises two sections 24, 25, hinged respectively to the side walls 14, 15, and connected thereto by links 32 .. 37 in such a manner that they move automatically into their correct operative position when the leaves of the walls are brought into alignment. In this position they are secured to the front and rear walls by pivoted levers 28 and studs 29, and by hook and eye connections 30, 31. Clips 51 are provided for securing the collapsed structure to the luggage grid of a car and a wheel 49, mounted on a rotatable bolt 53, facilitates the transport of the structure after the side, front, and rear walls have been folded down. The sections of the superstructure are preferably in the form of light wooden or metal frames faced with plywood, canvas, or similar material. For a sunbathing shelter, a covering of special glass may be used.
