Double-acting piston pumps ; valves, arrangement of.-A double-acting pump for liquids and gases comprises a barrel a with inlet and delivery chambers c, g arranged at one end and coaxially therewith. The chambers are connected by passages e, f provided with inlet valves 1, 2 and delivery valves 3, 4. The chamber c is connected to one end of the barrel by a pipa i, and the chamber f in the other end by a pipe j. In another form, the barrel is surrounded by a jacket which serves the purpose of the pipe i. In another form, the valve box is annular and is divided into four chambers separated by valve partitions. In another form, suitable for supplying fuel to engines, the valve box is separate from the barrel and is connected thereto by pipes. Normally, the fuel passes through the valve box by gravity or the suction of the engine, and the pump is operated only when it is desired to supply the fuel under pressure.
