Abstract

254,162. Sturm, W. Oct. 21, 1925. Spray carburettors. - In carburettors provided with an air throttle and with a connection between the induction passage and the float chamber, the float chamber is air-tight and is connected by an air-tight passage with the throat of a main choke tube, whilst the fuel nozzle is located in an auxiliary choke tube the section in which is greater than that in the main choke tube. The suction in the float chamber raises fuel thereto from the main tank. The casing is in the form of a bent pipe a the lower end containing the air valve b, the upper end being formed as a main choke tube c the throat of which is connected by a passage h with the space g above the fuel in the float chamber e. One or more auxiliary choke tubes d are provided into one of which discharges the nozzle l connected to the float chamber by a pipe k containing a construction i. Air is admitted to the pipe k through a tube m provided with a constriction t and opening at n in front of the choke tube d. The passage h may communicate with one of the auxiliary choke tubes providing the suction therein is less than in that containing the nozzle l. A slow-running nozzle r with air inlet s is mounted in the casing and is connected to the float chamber by a pipe q having a constriction o and also a connection through a pipe x with constriction p with the induction passage. In a modification, the pipe x is replaced by a pipe entering the induction passage in the neighbourhood of the air valve b, the air flow past the valve in its various stages of opening exerting varying influences on the flow of air through the pipe.
