Abstract

247,551. Conaway, E. A. Feb. 10, 1925, [Convention date]. Seal locks and fastenings; loocks, pin-key; hook fastenings; multiple fastenings for wagon doors.- A seal lock for the sliding doors of goods-wagons comprises a keeper on the door-post, engaged by a main hook-like bolt carrying the seal and the locking means and one or more auxilliary hookbolts. The bolts are pivoted on the door and the main bolt prevents release of the others, when engaged with the keeper. The main bolt 2 is pivoted by its boss 22 on a plate 25 secured to the door 34, and has one or more auxilliary bolts 3 pivoted to an extension 23 of the boss 22. Both bolts engage the keeper 1 on the post 36. The keeper is formed with an attaching plate 5 with strengthening ribs 6, a hollow boss 4 with the seal-aperture 21, and a hollow extension 8. The bolt 3 enters the recess 9 in the part 8 and its hook-like end engages the shoulder 10, Fig. 3. The bolt 2 is brought down upon the part 4, the top of which is open to admit its hook-like end, a lug 28 on which enters a recess 11 to prevent lifting the bolt 3 for release. The hook-like end 27 of the bolt 2 carries a circular member 29 containing a spring-pressed plunger 32 with sidelugs 31 working in a pair of slots 30, Fig. 6. When the bolt is pressed home, the lugs 31 snap behind shoulders 18 on a cam-like projection 19 inside the member 4 and prevent release of the bolts until the plunger 32 is pressed back. A sheet-metal seal 37 is placed over the member 29 before the bolt 3 is engaged, and this has to be pierced by the implement by which the plunger is forced back to release the bolt, and is visible through the bevelled aperture 21 in the keeperboss 4. The bolt 3 carries a semicircular cover 35 to prevent access to the plunger 32 and to render the device weather-proof. Either bolt can be used without the other.
