Treatment by steaming. -- An apparatus for steaming and swelling grain comprises a chamber 2 into which steam is injected and to which the grain is supplied by means of an auomatic feeding-device after passing through a preheating chamber 5. The chamber 2 is steam-jacketed and has a steam inlet 11. A rotary pocketed drum 6 feeds the grain into the chamber, whence it is discharged through the cock 10. The steam escapes partly by the cock 10 and partly between superposed annular plates 14 to a drain-cock 15.
