Fluid - friction apparatus.-In a brine circulating device for refrigerating apparatus, of the kind in which a rotating evaporator drum a lifts the brine from a reservoir band delivers it to an overhanging collecting- pocket e to impart a pressure head to the brine for circulation to chambers through pipes i, the collecting-pocket e is made removable from the part c of the delivery chamber to which the circulating pipes i are connected, so that the evaporator drum may be removed without disconnecting the pipes. The communicating passage f between the removable pocket e and the fixed chamber c is restricted in order to produce first an eddying or swirling movement and then a calming effect in the brine, whereby it is freed from air and scum. A packing g around theopening f is tightened by the screws h that secure the cover d to the reservoir b. The whole apparatus has a removable insulated cover m.
