Valves.-A pair of cylinders A, B are each provided with a sleeve valve F<a>, Fb formed respectively with ports 1<c> - - 4<c> and 1<d> - - 4<d> controlling admission ports 1<a> and 1<b> and exhaust ports 2<a>, 3<a>, 4<a> and 2<b>, 3<b>, 4<b> in the respective cylinders. The exhaust commences at the lower ports 2<a> and 2<b> when these are uncovered by the sleeve ports 2<c> and 2<d> and by the pistons P<a> and P<b>. The subsequent exhaust from each cylinder is controlled by both sleeve valves; thus, the exhaust from cylinder A passes through ports 3<a>, 4<b>, M<b>, and T<b>, and that from cylinder B through ports 3<b>, 4<a>, M<a>, and T<a>. The ports 3<a>, 3<b> and 4<a>, 4<b> may be connected by a common chamber C, or cross-connected by separate pipes.
