Retaining-devices in receptacle neck above closure; packing-rings for stoppers; sealing-devices for stoppers and other closures. - In milk churns &c. in which the lid compresses a sealing ring between, shoulders formed on the lid and on the body of the can, a rubber or other sealing ring 5 is fixed on a sheet-metal base 6, secured to the lid 1, by turning up one or both edges of the sheet to form one or more grooves 6a to receive the edge or edges of the base 5a of the sealing ring. As shown, one edge of the base 5a is carried in a groove 7 in the lid 1, and one or more spring- pressed bolts 17, pierced transversely to take the shackle of a padlock, engage holes in the can to secure the lid in position. The metal base 6 may be detachably secured to the lid.
