Abstract

Lids, hermetic; sealing-devices for closures other than corks and plug stoppers.-In a churn, a non-absorbent diaphragm A is placed on a shoulder B at the bottom of the neck C and is sufficiently thin and flexible for its edges to conform to the curved shape of the shoulder B when pressed thereon by the lower rounded edge of the lid D to form a fluid-tight joint. The diaphragm may be made of thin cardboard preferably treated with wax &c., and as it is difficult to remove without damage, tampering with the contents of the churn can be detected. According to the Provisional Specification, a series of small apertures may be made in the diaphragm for ventilation purposes.
