1012. Palmer, E. R. Jan. 14. Climbing-apparatus; ladder escapes.-Rainwater, ventilating, and like pipes secured to the walls of buildings are provided with detachable steps to serve as fire-escapes. Bosses b are cast on the pipe a on opposite sides at suitable intervals, and steps c are secured thereto by suitable means such as screws f, Fig. 1, or by forming the boss b<1>, Figs. 5 and 6, tapering and of T-section, to engage a corresponding slot in the step.
