Abstract

136,877. Gilford, H. E. Dec. 18, 1918. Double walls. - A wall is formed of outer flanged slabs 1 and an inner lining 5. The flanges 4 of the slabs form buttresses, and the air spaces in the wall extend uninterruptedly from the top to the bottom of the structure. The flanges are rabbeted or stepped to interengage and form grouting-grooves 17. and are provided with inclined grooves 15 or projections 16 to guide condensation to draining- holes 14. Wall-plates 10 for joists 11 are supported on shoulders on the flanges. The inner wall may consist of sections of lath and plaster, expanded metal and plaster, concrete slabs, or panels of wood, asbestos, or metal, the joints of which meet on the centre lines of the buttresses. Strips 6 of felt or other waterproof material may be placed between the lining and buttresses, or wooden bearers 8a for the lining may be secured to the joints of the buttresses by bent rag-bolts 7<a>.
