Abstract
179,843. White, A. E., (Mercury Manufacturing Co.). June 14, 1921. Axles and axle structures.-The road wheels rotate on sleeves 14 of the axle housing, and are driven through reducing gearing enclosed in the wheels. A carrier plate 23 for idle pinions of the reducing gear is integral with a sleeve 22 which fits within the end sleeve of the axle housing and is secured therein by a cotter pin 24. A plate 28 is bolted to the carrier plate 23 and carries the outer ends of the pins 33. The wheel bearings are secured between an axle flange 13 and the plate 23, so that after the plate 36 and the gear-carrier 23 and its sleeve 22 have been removed the wheel also can be taken off.
