Abstract

163,299. Willis, G. M. May 13, 1920, [Convention date]. Axles and axle structures.-The fixed axle comprises a two-part differential casing 12, into which are fitted sleeves 3 carrying fixed gear-wheels 24 forming part of epicyclic reducing gearing through which the road-wheels are driven. The roadwheel bearings 14, 15 are respectively secured between internal shoulders on the wheel hubs and sleeves 20 and the gear-wheels 24. The sleeves 20 abut against the ends of the casing 12, and may carry the brake-operating members for the brake drums 21. The epicyclic gearing is enclcsed between a disc-like member of the road wheel and an outer plate 36.
