Abstract

171,773. Cate, P. T. B. Aug. 20, 1920. Current motors; removing mud under current motors.-A water-wheel 9 is supported by a framework 4 pivotally mounted on two floats 1, 2. one in the supply water and one in the tail water, the difference of levels being maintained by a lock system. A sill 11, with its lower edges on the bottom of the supply water channel and its upper edge vertically below and close to the wheel directs the current on to the wheel, which may have a curved plate 20 surrounding the lower portion to prevent escape of water. The lower edge of the sill is provided with rollers 12 running on rails 13 on a plate 14 forming the bottom of the supply channel. This plate 14 is curved upwardly in both directions from the 45‹ position of the sill. Passages 28 in the plate 14 allow mud &c. to pass to the tailwater channel. The framework 4 is guided by rollers 17 running on vertical rails 18. The vertical position of the wheel 9 is adjusted by means of ballast water in the floats. An emergency release may be provided by constructing the sill so that in its vertical position a discharge can take place below its lower edge.
