Abstract

180,998. Barrages Automatiques Soc. Anon. June 3, 1921, [Convention date]. Sluice gates.-An automatic sluice more particularly for controlling the admission of water to and from reservoirs in tidal power plants comprises a hollow cylindrical or prismatic reinforced concrete obturator a furnished with contact surfaces b to ensure watertight closure. The obturator is ballasted with sand so that its weight is equal to that of the water displaced by it and in order to reduce friction is provided with rollers at each end running on rails. As soon as the head in the reservoir communicating with the lower face of the obturator rises above that in the other, the obturator will rise; and as soon as a descending current occurs the sluice closes. To protect the sluice against damage by waves, it may be provided with liquid or other brakes.
