Drum or barrel winding-machines; driving- gear.-In electrically driven hoisting apparatus in which the motor, hoisting-gear, and winding- drum are entirely enclosed, and the gearing between the motor shaft and the drum is contained. within the drum, a carrier cage is mounted in the drum and carries planetary pinions driven by a pinion on the motor shaft and adapted to gear with a stationary toothed flange projecting into the interior of the drum and a toothed flange secured to the inside of the drum, the carrier cage, planetary pinions, and driving pinion being capable of removal as a unit. A partition 4 divides the casing 1 into compartments 2, 3 the former of which contains the motor 7 and the latter the driving-gear and drum 21. A cage 12 supporting shafts 13 is revolubly mounted on bosses 10 at the ends of a pinion 9 keyed to the motor shaft 6. Pinions 14 mounted on the shafts 13 gear with the pinion 9 and with teeth 18 on a flange 17 secured to the partition 4 and also with a toothed flange 22 secured to the inner surface of the drum 21. When the flange 22 is detached from the drum, the cage 12 and pinions 9, 14 can be removed as a unit. Helical grooves of opposite hand are formed on the drum and an end of the hoisting rope is secured to each end of the drum. The hoisting rope 23 passes through a slot 24, Fig. 2, in the casing 1, round a pair of sheaves 26 from which the load-engaging Look 25 is suspended, and over a sheave 27. The casing 1 is suspended from wheels 59 running on a girder 60, and may be extended on the other side of the motor 7 to contain a duplicate hoisting- apparatus.
