1500152 Defrosting; ventilating buildings SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES ALSTHOM 24 July 1975 [24 July 1974] 31052/75 Headings F4H and F4V An air conditioning system for use in a building comprises an air inlet duct 6, an air outlet duct 8, a heat pump including a condenser 3, a compressor 1, an evaporator 2 and an expansion member 4, an independent heat source 11 of adjustable power arranged upstream of the evaporator 2 in the outlet duct 8, a sensor 13 for detecting any variation of the evaporator temperature, and a regulator 12 varying the power of the heat source in response to a signal from the sensor to prevent ice forming on the evaporator during operation of the system. The source 11 may be either an electrical resistance heating element or a hot water heat exchanger. The sensor 13 may be either a temperature sensor, or a pressure sensor arranged in the heat pump circuit at the evaporator or between the evaporator and the compressor to monitor the pressure in the circuit in dependance upon the the evaporator temperature.
