Abstract
1457433 Space heating and cooling systems; refrigerating AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO Inc 6 Dec 1973 [21 March 1973] 56711/73 Headings F4U and F4H A space heating and cooling system for a plurality of rooms of a building comprises at least one air heating or cooling unit 16 in each room, each unit 16 having a reversible refrigeration circuit including a compressor 18, a heat exchanger 20 across which room air is blown by a fan 24, a heat exchanger 8 having a tube 26 for water flow therethrough and a capillary tube or expansion valve 34, the tube 26 of each heat exchanger 8 being included in a common closed water circulating circuit 3, wherein a temperature sensor is mounted within the tube 26 of each unit whereby when the heat exchanger 8 is serving as an evaporator, a control device actuated by the sensor switches off the compressor motor if the water temperature approaches freezing point. The sensor may be a thermistor, a thermocouple or a fluid filled capillary tube (40, Fig. 2) communicating with a bellows (42) which actuates a switch (44) in an electric circuit including the compressor motor. The heat exchanger 8 may be a U-shaped tubein-tube heat exchanger or a tube-in-shell heat exchanger. The circuit 3 includes a cooler 12, e.g. a closed circuit evaporative cooler and a heater 14, e.g. a boiler.
