Abstract

1491596 Blasting HODGE CLEMCO Ltd 18 June 1976 [21 May 1975] 22025/75 Heading B3D Blast cleaning equipment comprises means to supply controlled volumes of water to a pressure gas/abrasive supply line 9, Fig. 1, of the equipment, said means including an air-operated water pump 2, the outlet 6 of which is connected to the supply line, and valve means 7 to render the pump inoperative. The pump is located in a cabinet 1 and has a connection 3 to an operating air supply, the air supply passing through a water separator 5 which ensures a clean supply of air to the pump. The pump also has an inlet 4 for a supply of water and the outlet 6 is connected through a control flow valve 7 and check valve 8 to the pressure air/ abrasive supply line 9. With the air supply to the inlet 3 and the water supply to the inlet 4 switched on, the pump is inoperative until the valve 7 is opened whereupon the air activates the pump to supply controlled volumes of water to the mixture of air and abrasive to effect dampening of the abrasive. A pressure relief valve 10 is provided. In another embodiment, the inlet 13, Fig. 2, of the pump 12 is connected by a pressure regulator 14 to an air supply which is also connected to an air operated valve 16 in the water supply connected to the water inlet 15 of the pump, a control valve 18 in the water supply ensuring an approximately constant rate of flow to the pump. The outlet 16 of the pump is connected to the pressure air/abrasive supply line of the blast cleaning equipment. The valve 16 is automatically opened so that water is supplied to the pump when the air supply is connected to the pump. The pump supplies between 0À4 and 1À5 gallons per minute to the air/abrasive mixture. The air supply line may be connected to the main controls of the blast cleaning unit.
