Abstract

1403167 Abrasive tools J J G G BROIDO 16 Oct 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 48140/73 Heading B3D A grinding or polishing tool for use with a solid, pasty or liquid abrasive mixture, comprises a rotary plate having a tool surface constituted on the one hand by an element 1 of relatively hard metal, such as cast iron or steel, and on the other hand by softer elements 5 of material such as iron, copper, tin, or aluminium the elements of both kinds being juxtaposed, regularly distributed over the working surface, and flush with one another. As described, the device consists of a plate 1 of cast iron having concentric rows of circular holes 2, 3, 4 in which are glued circular elements 5, 6, 7 consisting of a mixture of metallic powder, such as copper, iron, aluminium, tin or lead, and resin. The holes may be other than circular and extend through the plate or be blind, and the elements may be sintered and of pure metal. The elements consisting of a metallic powder with a synthetic resin binder may be cast directly into the apertures and have a cylindrical part 8 connected by a constriction 10 to a funnel-shaped part 11, the plate resting on a table 12, the surface of the plate thereafter being ground so that the elements are flush with the surface of the plate. The concentric rows each have the same number of elements 5, 6, 7. The grinding or polishing device may be used with abrasive such as diamond or cubic boron nitride, or aluminium oxide, carborundum or the like and may be in the form of a cylinder, sphere or cone.
