Abstract

[Also in Division C7] An abrasive element, Fig. 2, has a surface of diamonds 6, 8 enclosed in an electrodeposited metal coating 4, conductive particles 7, 9 mixed with the diamonds leading to formation of ridges 10, 11 of electrodeposit. A series of such lamellar elements 17 may form an abrasive wheel &c., the interlamellar spaces 18, 19, optionally filled with porous material, e.g. ceramics or cast iron, preventing clogging of the tool by abraded material. The conductive particles 7, 9 may be of graphite, and lamellµ may be spaced by glass fibre strips during attachment, e.g. by welding, to a backing 27, the strips being removable subsequently.
