Abstract
1386847 Electrostatic and magnetic printing PELOREX CORP 5 July 1972 [16 July 1971] 31505/72 Heading G2H [Also in Division B6] In a copying press a developed electrostatic image is used to form an identical magnetic image either beneath the electrostatic image or on a tape or member, which is brought into contact with the electrostatic image. In the apparatus of Fig.1 a magnetizable endless band 12 is charged by means 21, imaged by lens 20 and developed with suitable toner particles of iron and resin in a bath of kerosene and water 25. The developed image is magnetized by magnet 30 and demagnetized by magnet 38 the toner particles of the image acting as a shield and preventing demagnetization of the band beneath the image. The image is transferred to a copy web 11 whilst passing through rollers 45 and 13 and the image is heat fixed by means 48. If the magnetic image is to be used for multiple copies a further demagnetizer 50, band cleaner 58 and the charging and optical means 21 and 20 are deactivated whilst band proceeds to follow a continuous endless path. When a new image is desired the demagnetizer and cleaner 50, 58 are energized. In a modification of this embodiment Fig.8 (not shown) the band 12 is a drum 103 and the magnetic image is formed on an endless band 107. In Fig.9 (not shown) multi-coloured reproductions are made three separate devices such as that shown in Fig. 1 being employed each for a different colour, blue, yellow or red. Fig.10 also shows a multi-colour reproducer the three electrostatic images on endless band 180 being converted to three magnetic images on band 194 and the copy feed drum 201 revolving at three times the speed to collect the full superimposed colour reproduction. In the apparatus of Fig.15 5 the copy web 252 is electrostatically imaged and developed and fixed and an endless band 262 is used to produce and transfer a magnetic image derived from the electrostatic image back to the web 252 but spaced from the original electrostatic image. Fig.20 (not shown) is similar to the apparatus of Fig.15 but the developer is applied using permanent or electric magnets.
