Abstract

1,060,406. Developing electrostatic images. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. May 28, 1964 [June 18, 1963], No.22087/64. Heading G2H. An apparatus for developing electrostatic images has a rotatably mounted applicator roller 1 with means for creating a magnetic field in the path of the periphery of the roller, the periphery of the roller having layer of irregularly shaped particles bonded thereto which forms a thick brush-like configuration when in the magnetic field. A trough 13 is supplied with a developer mixture of iron carrier particles and electroscopic toner particles. The roller 11 has a shaft 24 of magnetizable metal within a tube (21) Fig. 2 (not shown) carrying a permanent bar magnet 25, Fig. 1 and pole piece 26. The tube (21), Fig. 2 (not shown) is of non-magnetic material, e.g., aluminium, copper or brass. Particles (32), Fig. 4 (not shown), e.g., stainless steel, sand, glass, carborundum, ferrous or non-ferrous metals or mixtures thereof mixed with a binder or adhesive, are bonded to the tube 21. The developer is mixed by a pair of drive screws such as 19, Fig. 1. A projecting lip (13a) Fig. 2 (not shown) controls the thickness of developer brush on the roller 11. Photoconductive copy sheets are fed into contact with the magnetic brush by feed rollers of nap or pile material to obviate scratching or marring.
