Abstract

138,275. Imray, O., (Meadoweroft, J. C.). Aug. 7, 1919. Sprinklers, automatic.-In a dry-pipe valve of the differential type, the valve 25 is carried by an arm 30 pivoted at 32 and connected by a pivoted link 37 to a counterweight 35, which normally bears against a rest-frame 40 rigidly carried by the arm 30, and is adapted, after the valve 25 has opened slightly, to fall and cause the link 37 to strike a lug 33 on the arm 30, thus accelerating the opening of the valve. A gravity pawl 50 adapted to engage teeth 41 on the rest-frame 40 prevents the valve closing after it has partly opened. The counterweight 35 is reset to normal position by means of a pull-rod 70. The valve 25 is provided with a shoulder 26 engaging the water seat 6 and with a flexible valvular ring 27 of rubber &c. at the edge engaging a recessed seat 7 to prevent escape of the compressed air. The valve 25 is journaled in the arm 30 in such a way as to have a certain amount of free axial movement; and undue rocking is prevented by means of the downwardly-curved end of the arm 30 together with a correspondingly-curved concentric rib 17 on the underside of the arm. A drip-outlet valve. 82 is normally held open by means of a weighted lever 81 engaged by the valve 25 when closed, and is adapted to close by gravity as soon as the valve 25 begins to open.
