Abstract
137,169. New, F. O. W. March 3, 1919. Hook fastenings; multiple fastenings.- A fastening for the engine bonnets of motor-cars comprises two or more hooks e mounted on a spring-controlled pivot rod b on the bonnet and adapted to engage a rod g or separate eyes secured to the frame. The hooks are connected by a bar f, which serves as a handle and releases and opens the bonnet in one movement. The curved parts e<2> of the hooks are shaped to draw the parts together, and are provided with notches e<3> into which the eyes g snap. The pivot rod b is mounted in brackets c and is under the control of springs d, or the hooks may be on separate pivots. In another form, the hook is mounted on a stationary pivot and engages a spring-controlled eye g as shown in Fig. 6. In a further modifkation, the hooks are mounted to move in the plane of the bonnet. Instead of the pivots being movable, the shanks of the hooks may be telescopic. The fastening is stated to be applicable also to boxes.
