[Class 44] A fastening device for motor car bonnets comprises two or more members co-operating with elements on the chassis and actuated by a single handle or knob through a crank or cranks, the co-operating members and elements being retained in resilient engagement by one or more spring links 4 adapted to hold the crank beyond its dead centre position against a stop. Fig. 2 shows two shafts 4, carried by the bonnet panel, having bent ends 2 adapted to engage brackets 7 on the chassis, the inner ends of the shafts having cranks 8 with ball pins 9 engaging sockets in a member 10 which is connected by a spring 11 with an arm 12. The arm 12 is mounted on a pivot provided with lever on the outside of the bonnet and is retained in the engaged position by the spring 11 which presses the arm against a stop 14. Alternatively the two cranks 8 may be connected by separate springs to the arm 12. Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein two hooks 18 on sliding members 21 are connected by springs 23 to pins 24, 25 on a plate 26 which has a projection 28 normally held by the springs against a stop 29. The plate is turned to release the hooks by an arm 27 on the outside of the bonnet. Fig. 6 shows two vertically sliding hooks 30 connected by a horizontal bar 33 which is connected at its centre by a spring 38 to a plate 39 turned by a lever 40. Additional springs, not shown, may in each case retain the device in its unlocked position.
