Abstract

1356195 Ignition systems FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI SpA 30 April 1971 [5 June 1970] 12489/71 Heading F1B A triggering device for a silicon controlled rectifier SCR for controlling a capacitor discharge ignition circuit of an internal-combustion engine (not shown) comprises a monostable multi-vibrator MVM adapted for response in use to input pulses produced by operation of a mechanical contact breaker R to provide output pulses for supply to the silicon controlled rectifier, the input of the multi-vibrator being connected to a memory circuit such that in use when the multi-vibrator is operated to produce an output pulse the memory circuit will be conditioned to apply to the multi-vibrator input a bias such as to resist operation of the multivibrator to produce a further output pulse, the memory circuit being such as to remove the bias within a predetermined period to permit the multi-vibrator to respond to the next operation of the contact breaker. The memory circuit comprises a capacitor C3 parallel connected to a resistor R5 so that the capacitor is charged during production of a multi-vibrator output pulse. The multi-vibrator is arranged for energization from a D.C. source through an integrating circuit comprising a series resistor 12 and a parallel capacitor C4. Upon each operation of the breaker contacts, the capacitor will provide the multi-vibrator with a supply voltage sufficient to develop at the catput thereof a control signal capable of triggering the silicon controlled rectifier, while the capacitor will for a predetermined period after the conductive state of the multi-vibrator ceases, supply the multi-vibrator with such a reduced supply voltage that the multi-vibrator output control signal is zero or incapable of triggering the silicon controlled rectifier.
