Abstract
1,239,210. Ignition systems. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Nov.18, 1968 [Dec.1 1967], No.54835/67. Heading F1B. An ignition system comprises an oscillator VT1, a spark producing circuit 13, 14, VT4 which on receiving an input from the oscillator produces a spark at a plug 22 of the engine, means coupling the oscillator to the spark producing circuit and means (not shown) driven by the engine for controlling the oscillator to determine the instants at which sparks are produced. The oscillator is provided with both positive and negative feedback L2, L1 so that when no spark is required the oscillator does not oscillate. The means driven by the engine serves to increase the positive feedback when a spark is required and so cause the oscillator to oscillate. Each spark is produced when the switching device VT4 is turned off and a monostable circuit driven by the output from the oscillator serves when in its unstable state to turn the switching device off. The oscillator used starts suddenly when the coupling between the coils L2 and L3 is increased. The spark is produced substantially instantaneously when the ferrite rod (not shown) passed over the core of the coils.
