Abstract

1328583 Winding gear CLARKE CHAPMAN-JOHN THOMPSON Ltd 20 July 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 36784/71 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] An apparatus comprises a hoist drum 22, driven through a working torque path, e.g. shifts 14, 20 and the gears mounted thereon, a service brake operable normally to brake the hoist drum 22 and an emergency brake for the hoist drum 22<SP>1</SP> the emergency brake being associated with a shaft 28 driven by the hoist drum. The emergency brake comprises a drum or disc 30 attached to the shaft 28 The service braking member 16 is associated with the shaft 14, the shaft being driven by a motor 12. The emergency brake in use of the apparatus is put on at ever service brake application but after a slight delay. Sensing means are provided to monitor speeds of rotation of the gear-box input and output shaft and the sensing means initiates an emergency brake application in response to any deviation from the expected difference.
