Abstract
897,243. Rotary tipplers. SOC. BELGE DE MECANISATION. Nov. 30, 1959 [Dec. 1, 1958; Aug. 13, 1959], No. 40651/59. Class 78 (4). A rotary tippler 1, Fig. 2, is driven and braked by a shaft 4, the initial rotation being applied through a segment 16 resiliently mounted on the rotor; the driving and braking means are controlled by a single control. As described, when the control is operated to start the tippler the shaft 4 is driven through a clutch and the brake, also mounted on the shaft 4 is disengaged. Wheels 4a, and initially a sprocket 19, Fig. 4, rotate the tippler, the sprocket 19 engaging teeth 16a of progressively increasing depth on the sector 16 mounted on rubber blocks 18. During rotation a cam 13 operates a contact 14 which disengages the clutch and applies the brake, the tippler being arrested by the wheels 4a and the sprocket 19. A safety stop 15, Fig. 2, with a counterweight 15a ensures that the tippler stops in the correct position. The sprocket 19 and sector 16 may be replaced by a wheel having a hollow rim of trapezoidal section and a wedge-shaped member with friction linings on their contacting surfaces. Alternatively, the teeth on the sprocket and sector may be replaced by linings having a high coefficient of friction. In a further embodiment the brake and clutch may be mounted on separate shafts having either a common or coupled control.
