Abstract
PURPOSE: To completely remove barium in a getter as coated on electrodes in a cathode ray tube by providing an annular high melting point auxiliary metal electrode around one intermediate electrode excluding the last electroded applied with an anode voltage in the vicinity of the inner wall of the neck of the tube.
CONSTITUTION: A cathode and more than three electrodes of different voltage to be applied are so provided at predetermined interval by insulating supports 8 as to face oppositely with each other. An electron gun having the last electrode 4 nearest to the fluorescent face of a cathode ray tube and applied with anode voltage thereto is arranged within the neck 5 of the tube. A nonmagnetic high melting point auxiliary metal electrode 9 having higher than 1,800°C of melting point made of tantalm or the like is provided around one 3 of intermediate electrodes excluding the cathode and the last electrode 4 of the tube in the vicinity of the inner wall of the neck 5 as applied with predetermined voltage. Thus, the potential of the inner wall of the neck 5 is lowered, and barium in a getter coated on the electrode is completely removed to thereby obtain the cathode ray tube having no initital glow.
