Abstract

1306444 Feeding webs KARL LEIBFRIED GmbH 8 July 1970 [11 July 1969] 33169/70 Heading B8R Apparatus for supporting a first reel 1 of web material, e.g. paper, in an unwinding position, and a second reel 2 in a storage position comprises horizontally opposed spindles 4, 5 mounted on a common shaft 8 which can pivot about a perpendicular axis 9, so that the reel 2 can be swung into the unwinding position to replace an exhausted reel 1, the free end of the spindle in the unwinding position being received by a releasable clamp 10. The apparatus also includes a brake 17 which operates on the unwinding spindle, and a splicing device for joining the trailing end of the working web to the leading end of the replacement web, the device comprising a support 37 carrying a reel of adhesive tape 38, a cutter, and support rails 29, (30), Fig. 3 (not shown), each having a clamping member 31 for clamping the web ends during the splicing operation.
