Abstract

1296306 Feeding webs BUTLER AUTOMATIC Inc 19 April 1971 1 [16 Feb 1970] 21680/71 Heading B8R Web from a supply roll 24 is fed to processing apparatus by way of a storage festoon 26 which also controls a brake 66 acting on the roll to tension the web. The roll 24 is supported in arms (48, 50) Figs. 5 and 7 (not shown) carried by a mobile stand 20, the arms being adjustable to accommodate rolls of different widths and being movable to raise a roll from a loading position to the working position. The stand 20 is provided with a splicing assembly including a perforated vacuum roller 112, a buffer roller 116 and a cutter (148) Figs. 3 and 11 (not shown), and is associated with a second stand 22 which is the mirror-image of the first and which has a similar splicing assembly constituted by rollers 118, 114. The stand 22 supports a standby roll 91, the adhesively prepared leading end of which is held ready on the vacuum roller 114. When the supply roll 24 is almost exhausted, the rollers 112, 114 are urged together to effect the splice between the working web and the new web, the cutter (148) then being operated to sever the old web.
