1293919 Transport system R H C MARTY 23 Dec 1969 [30 Dec 1968] 62727/69 Heading B7N In a transport system in which self propelled vehicles 16 running on wheels 11 are guided by roller members 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, disposed on opposite ends of a rockable bar 17, one of which engages a grooved track 14, 14<SP>1</SP> formed in the running surface at crossovers or double junctions which have no moving parts, the rail 14 which is engaged determines the vehicle's route through the junction and extensions 20, 20<SP>1</SP> on the rockable bar detect the presence of another vehicle approaching the junction and act to route the vehicle to prevent a collision. A vehicle approaching the crossover on wheel tracks 24 has a guide roller engaged in grooved track 26 if it has to move to the right on grooved track 34 or engaged in grooved track 29 if it has to cross over to the left track. The two wheel tracks 24, 24<SP>1</SP> are arranged to run parallel in approach to the crossover so that extension 20<SP>1</SP> on a vehicle on the right hand track 24 and taking the crossover will engage a part of another vehicle if present on wheel track 24<SP>1</SP> approaching the junction. This engagement rocks the bar 17 so that the vehicle is then routed safely to the right end track away from a possible collision at the crossover. Similarly, the vehicle on track 24<SP>1</SP> if set to cross over will be actuated to follow the left track to avoid the collision. For routing a vehicle from a station on a shunt track on a main loop to another station on a shunt track on the same loop the vehicle carries three counters, the first indicating the number of the desired station, the second indicating initially the number of the departure station and this is stepped forward by a pulse received from a track contact as the vehicle passes the entry to each succeeding station junction and the third indicating the difference. When this is zero solenoid 19 or the like is operated to rock the bar and route the vehicle over the associated junction to the station shunt track. Track loop arrangements can be provided for routing vehicles, which are diverted at crossovers &c. to avoid collision, back on to their route track.
