1308020 Track propulsion system P KOUKKANEN 20 May 1970 [28 May 1969] 24454/70 Heading B7L A transport device comprises a 'tricycle'' having two wheels 21, 23 at the front and a wheel 25 at the rear, which runs on hollow rails 16, 17 (shown in cross-section in Fig. 8) having slits 18 into which the wheels 21 and 23 fit, contacting endless moving belts 19, (20) in the rails, the wheel 25 being wider than the slit 18 and thus running along the top of the rail 16; brakes are provided on the wheels which can be applied to either keep the vehicle stationary (i.e. wheel 25 braked, and wheels 21, 23 rolling freely) or to move the vehicle along with the belts (i.e. wheels 21, 23 braked). Also described is a track system (Fig. 5) for use with a similarly operated passenger vehicle (Figs. 1-4, not shown). The vehicles-consist of platforms (6) furnished with two sets of rollers (7, 8) one set (8) contacting a moving belt (4) and the other set (7) resting on a stationary track (1). The track for use with these vehicles comprises a continuously moving main track 10 and a continuously moving side track 11 whereby the vehicles on the side track may be brought to a halt to enable passengers to embark, and are then speeded up to move at the same speed as the vehicles on the main track, when passengers may transfer from the side to the main track.
