Abstract

1371741 Conveyer systems BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd 20 Sept 1971 [19 June 1970] 29881/70 Heading B7L [Also in Division B8] A transport apparatus for the conveyance of articles comprises a plurality of carriages 3 each of substantially "G-shaped" cross-section mounted so that each carriage rides on wheels 4, 5, 6, 7 which bear upon an endlegs rail 1 disposed wholly within the C-section, the arrangement being such that the wheels prevent rotation of the.carriage about three mutually perpendicular axes, each carriage being linked to the two adjacent carriages to form an endless chain and means for driving the carriages along the rail. The carriages are linked together by links, e.g. 13, 23 which are pivoted at one end to the carriages, at the axle 8 of the wheel 4, and at the other end to each other, via pin 20, to form the chain which can thus be folded zig-zag fashion. Pin 20 may be provided with wheels 21, 22 which co-operate with a track (not shown) which varies in distance from the rail 1 in order to cause the chain to fold up or straighten out and thus cause carriages 3 to travel slow or fast. The carriages are driven round the rail by means of a sprocket which engages with the ends of the axles 8 at any suitable point of the rail but is preferably located at a point where the rail curves through an angle of at least 90 degrees as this makes it easier to engage the sprocket.
