Abstract

1280377 Fuel injection systems SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 14 July 1970 [22 July 1969] 34143/70 Addition to 1207228 Heading G1N [Also in Division F1] The subject matter of this Specification is similar to that described in parent Specification in which there is disclosed an I.C. engine fuel and air supply arrangement comprising an air supply duct containing a downstream operatorcontrolled main throttle valve and an upstream auxiliary throttle valve arranged to open automatically and progressively as air-flow in the duct increases, and an electromagnetically actuated valve for controlling the quantity of fuel injected into the duct at a position downstream of the main throttle valve during a fraction of each revolution of a continuously rotatable member, said fraction being regulated to control the period of energization of the electromagnetically actuated valve and thereby the amount of fuel injected, in accordance with the degree of opening of the auxiliary throttle valve and thereby in accordance with air-flow. However, the present claims are concerned with an improvement in the arrangement, wherein between the rotary member and an engine-driven drive-shaft therefor, there is arranged means to modify, during operation, the angular position of the rotary member relative to said shaft to consequently control the moment of injection. The means comprises a differential gear arrangement, the housing of which is angularly adjustable in accordance with main throttle valve position or the suction downstream of the main throttle valve, to adjust the relative angular relationship. Thus the arrangement can allow the fuel injection to occur whilst the engine intake valves are open or closed, in accordance with engine load.
